Red Sea NanoMat – Compact Automatic Fleece Roller Filter

The Red Sea NanoMat Fleece Roller Filter brings automatic mechanical filtration to nano and smaller reef aquariums in a compact, plug-and-play design. Engineered as a drop-in replacement for standard 4-inch filter socks, the NanoMat continuously removes detritus, uneaten food, suspended particles, and other organic waste before it has a chance to break down in your aquarium.

Designed for saltwater systems up to 53 gallons (200 liters) with a maximum flow capacity of 250 GPH (950 L/h), the NanoMat is especially well suited for Red Sea MAX NANO G2 and compatible REEFER systems, as well as other aquariums equipped with a standard 4-inch filter sock holder.

Automatic Mechanical Filtration for Smaller Aquariums

Traditional filter socks trap waste effectively, but they require frequent removal and cleaning. Until they're changed, the trapped organic material remains in the aquarium system where it can continue to break down.

The NanoMat automates this process.

Water passes through the fleece where suspended particles are captured. As the fleece becomes clogged, the water level inside the NanoMat rises. A solid-state sensor detects the change and automatically advances the roll, replacing the dirty section with fresh fleece.

The used fleece—and the waste trapped within it—is rolled out of the water, helping reduce the amount of organic material left to decompose in the aquarium.

Smart Operation Without an App

Unlike Red Sea's larger ReefMat models, the NanoMat doesn't require ReefBeat, Wi-Fi, or an internet connection.

Its processor-controlled drive unit operates independently using dual solid-state water-level sensors. A secondary high-water sensor can temporarily stop fleece advancement when sump water levels rise, such as when the return pump is turned off.

The system can also suspend automatic advancement if repeated attempts fail to lower the internal water level, helping prevent unnecessary fleece waste or damage to the drive motor.

Compact Drop-In Design

One of the NanoMat's biggest advantages is its small footprint.

At only 3.5" x 3.5" x 16.1", the NanoMat is designed to fit into spaces where traditional roller filters may be too large. Red Sea specifically designed it as a replacement for filter socks in MAX NANO G2 systems, REEFER G2 systems, and compatible standard 4" filter sock installations.

This makes it an excellent option for reef keepers who want the convenience of automatic fleece filtration without extensively modifying their sump.

High-Flow Fleece Filtration

Each NanoMat uses a 2.2-inch-wide x 59-foot-long (5.5 cm x 18 m) roll of high-flow, skimmer-friendly 50 gsm non-woven polyester fleece.

Roll life varies depending on:

A roll commonly lasts around four weeks, although actual consumption can vary substantially from one aquarium to another.
